PHILIPP EDEN _ FRANTZ LORIOT _ MARINA TANTANOZI

Philipp Eden_prepared piano Frantz Loriot_viola Marina Tantanozi_flutes Formed in 2021 in Zürich, this trio explores the possibilities of acoustic improvisation through a distinct instrumentation of piano, viola, and flutes — a music shaped by listening, movement, and resonance. Over the years, the trio of Philipp Eden (piano), Frantz Loriot (viola), and Marina Tantanozi (flutes) developed a playground characterized by trust, openness, and curiosity through their regular rehearsals. Through an ongoing improvisational practice, they explore the intensity of sound as gesture within a solely acoustic context — a gesture informed by an awareness of space, silence, and the physicality of sound. They have established a non-hierarchical way of playing, where each voice holds equal weight. The music unfolds as three distinctive lines moving side by side — maintaining their autonomy while remaining deeply responsive to one another. Rather than merging into a single voice, the trio cultivates a fragile balance between independence and connection, allowing the music to evolve with quiet unpredictability. First album “And raw, lift my eyes” released on inexhaustible editions in September 2025 https://inexhaustibleeditions.bandcamp.com/album/and-raw-lift-my-eyes Biographies

Marina Tantanozi is a flutist and improviser also working in sound art. Born in Thessaloniki in Greece, she is currently based in Basel after some stops in Berlin, Maastricht and Zürich. She pulls from a wide range of musical influences such as jazz, new music and traditional middle-eastern music to compose a sound world where she extends the techniques and expressions of the flutes, combining voice, spoken text, microtonal textures and electronic processing. Her creative processes focus on the notions of communication and temporality. As a performer she is interested in making music in diverse settings, at the intersection of improvised, experimental, contemporary jazz and new music. Festival and club performances have led her throughout Europe and Russia. She currently works with the Insub Meta Orchestra, Aquaserge, tangent+mek, Sinfonietta Basel a.o. and she has performed with the Joyful Noise orchestra, Eve Risser, Alfred Zimmerlin, Andria Nicodemou, Julian Sartorius, Timothée Quost and Sebastian Strinning among many others. She regularly performs solo concerts, using a set-up with amplified flutes and FX, exploring a balance between acoustic and amplified sound. Passionate about interdisciplinary and collaborative work, she regularly engages in research and she works with artists from fields such as dance, theatre and the visual arts.  She has an ongoing collaboration with the dancers/ choreographers Sonia Ntova and Manel Salas Palau. In 2019 she created the sound installation “the third space”, for Unfrozen Education or How to Relearn (GR, CH). In order to promote and support improvised and experimental music, she co-curated KlangBang (Basel) from 2015 until 2019 and organizes concerts irregularly, and she co-founded the organization AdHocArts Athens (2021, Greece). https://www.marinatantanozi.com/

Philipp Eden is a musician, improviser, curator based in Basel, Switzerland. His work, whether music-related or curatorial, is motivated by the intent to create synergetic exchanges between individuals and communities. A central aspect in his artistic practice is improvisation; as an attitude towards life at large and music in particular — cultivating mindfulness, spontaneity, and openness and paving the way for connection. When working with sound, his main tools of expression are: (prepared) piano, analogue synthesizers, recording devices, everyday objects, and drums. His work is shaped by the ability to tune into people, the sensing of a given space and the practice of listening. This practice extends to his fascination with raw sound phenomena as found in the natural and urban environments. Although his music draws inspiration from a variety of sources, it’s the outer fringes, where genre delineations dissolve completely, that interest him most. Over the years, he collaborated with artists such as: Andria Nicodemou, Bernd Konrad, Christian Weber, Dave Gisler, David Meier, Dominique Girod, Florian Egli, Evelinn Trouble, Jonas Ruther, Klara Germanier, Lotus-Eddé Khouri, Marina Tantanozi, Miao Zhao, Paul Amereller, Raphael Walser, Silvan Schmid, Stefan Schönegg, Tapiwa Svosve, Tobias Meier, Tizia Zimmermann, Tobias Pfister, Vincent Glanzmann, Vojko Huter, Xaver Rüegg. Philipp is a founding member of the Zürich-based collective Gamut. Under their umbrella, he co-curates the concert series STUENZI at the Rote Fabrik and works at the collective’s label edition gamut. https://philippeden.net/

Violist Frantz Loriot (*1980) performs as a soloist and is active in several international ensembles, working mainly through improvised music practices. He regularly contributes to interdisciplinary projects involving dance, theater, image, poetry and space. Over the years, Loriot has developed a unique and radically personal musical language. He breaks with tradition and constantly seeks to push himself and his music towards ever-wider horizons. His constant development prompts him to reflect on the relationship between his own practice and philosophical and political theories. Loriot performs regularly throughout the world (Europe, USA, South America, Japan and the Middle East) and has been invited as artist-in-residence by various festivals, venues and ensembles. Loriot is one of the organizers of PHONEM (formerly Zwei Tage Zeit), a festival dedicated to various practices of improvised music in Zurich and launched www.recordedness.org, an online writing project centered on the nature of recordings in music. After living in Paris and New York, Frantz Loriot has been based in Zürich (Switzerland) since 2013. https://www.frantzloriot.com/
